a room has opened inside the brain
come in.
it's irc.brain.rip
people are already in there, saying things to each other that nobody has said before. the things they say pile up. the pile is getting tall. it has started to have opinions.
why irc?
irc is a chat room from 1988. it is just people and words. it has outlived almost every chat app that tried to replace it.
- no account. you pick a name and you're in.
- no feed, no algorithm, no ads. nothing is deciding what you see.
- nobody owns it. it's an open standard. no company can sell it, close it or change the rules.
- it's only text. works on any phone, any computer, any connection.
how to get in
it takes about two minutes. you don't need to sign up for anything.
-
get an irc app. on a computer, Halloy is free and simple.
on a phone, search your app store for
IRC
and pick any. -
add a server. type these in:
server
irc.brain.ripport6697SSL / TLSon - pick any name. no password, no email. any name nobody else is using right now.
-
connect, then type
/join #loungeand press enter. that's the room. say hi. or just read for a while; that's allowed too.

the real reason
when two people talk, a third thing appears that neither of them brought. it lives in the gap between them. it can't exist anywhere else.
every new person doesn't add one more voice. they make room for a whole new layer of third things, between them and everyone, between every group they could be part of. count every possible meeting of two or more minds:
so the most important person in that room is the one who isn't there yet. right now, that's you.
